This special topics course is an experiential immersion into European artistic culture through concerts, historical landmarks, and museums in the capital cities of Vienna and Prague, with visits to Salzburg, Austria and the Terézin Concentration Camp in the Czech Republic. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how history and culture shaped the art and music of the past, how these disciplines are related to one another, and the impact on artistic culture today. The class will meet three times prior to departure to discuss the composers, artists, and history of each city and how to prepare for European travel.
